Hello, Jeff
Using your analogy, I agree one should create a "planet" business, but once you have your stable long lasting planet business. One should take advantage of the "shooting star" because the shooting star can be very lucrative.

Hi Jeff:

Your article caught my attention. I don't know how proper the anology you used is, of customers being the sun while the business is the planet.

It is the business that creates what the customers need and buy, so it should be the business that ought to be the sun, who provides sunlight and energy that make it possible for the planets (the customers) to have life.

I believe that what you were trying to say is that businesses should be customer oriented.

In order words, before launching a business, it is wise to spend a long time to do your research to learn how much in demand is the product, or service, who will buy it, and how you'll be able to reach them, and learn about all the demographics and market forces that will affect your success , as well as knowing your competitors.

Most businesses don't do this well, and that contributes to their abject failure.

Jeff,

Looks like you're creating a shooting star with Ryan... The best 41 second rendition of Wild Thing I've ever heard... :-)

Anyway... I previously sent you a question about Daves Cool Little Website and I actually gave you the wrong link...

The site... The one I bought for $97 is located here:
http://www.TheUltimateURL.com

Now I'm a newbie, but I see potential with this... This fellow Dave is apparently adding things to my main page all the time... for example:
A link to the entire ClickBank Marketplace directory... and my ClickBank Nickname is already imbedded when people use this link.

It's found under eBay tools...

How come there's no link to CBMall?

Also you'll notice you can set a target designation for any niche market... In my case I selected the starting keyword "daycare" since I'm selling an e-book about starting a daycare called Daycare Builder!

Prospects can get to the e-book via the ClickBank Marketplace, but they need to use the keywords "Daycare or Childcare"...

This guy is holding a Teleseminar on March 9th about this product... I'm asking him Why the owners of one of these sites can't have at least 1 ad for their personal product when a certain niche is targeted?

That would make the site even "More Cool"...

Who knows? He's got testimonials from people who claim to be making Thousands every other week with their imbedded affiliate links from ClickBank, Adsense, and Commission Junction (eBay sales) off their little sites.

Does this sound possible? I mean you have more experiance with affiliate sales and commissions than I do... It sounds like you need a hell of a list or a fantastic traffic conversion system in place to make money from this.

Oh I agree,
Oh first thanks for sending me your blog link !!!
I think alot of what I see on the net is very similar to to late info-mercials. Which I do watch ,mostly cause theyre entertaining, and 2ndly they put to me to sleep. But seriously ANY serious business cannot operate like that for long and expect to stay open, or in business PERIOD. I own and operate a mechanical contracting firm in ottawa. And there's no way in hell I could be fadish and expect to keep or grow my client base. Same goes for the WWW. Im currently trying to do something along the line on the web as what I do for a living. Must say there arent alot of plumbing or elctrical affiliate programs out there. Any hoo keep up the good words Jeff,
Later.

HI Jeff. That is a question I think about all of the time. I use a simple html-based (always done by hand) website - and I purposely have my site configured so that I can drop any program instantly and rework the linking structure to support other programs that I determine to be more promising. This way all of my eggs aren't in one basket.

I'm afraid to go the blog route, though...because like you stated...I really wouldn't have much to say after the first post : )

Hi Jeff,
It is very good philosophy of on-line business.
I would like to read continuation of this philosophy, to find out about your experience based on concrete examples of shooting stars, concrete planets, the moons, etc.

«For example, web sites that are selling the latest information on search engine rankings, or software that automatically generates pages, often fall into this category. When the search engines change their algorithms or products become obsolete. They are red-hot for a short time and then the revenue disappears.»

I am sure, that these two programs are well known to you.
TrafficHurricane (www.TrafficHurricane.com )
and LifeTrafficSystem (www.thebesttrafficofyourlife.com)
To what category you concern them? What do you think of it?
How to distinguish fads or gimmicks, how to avoid or competently to use them?
How to create a solid and stable orbit? What could I start with? The beginner can drown in this sea of information. Maybe it is not necessary to invent a wheel, but simply copy your success?

Thank you.

As ever Jeff, this is very sound advice. I knew that I had to diversify, but wasn't sure quite how, so this is helpful.

I agree with you Jeff - Many people especially in the web based affiliate marketing business get carried away by some Bandwagon. They make efforts to promote those products but the effects are short lived. Also many people make use of hypes and black-hat techniques to get their website top of the search engines - but soon they discover that their website gets dropped out of search engines - and the business comes to standstill. To avoid such 'shooting star' surprises, one should have a concrete business plan and have his/her website centered around a niche theme, with useful content - and he surely can be a steady 'planet' in the long run.
