Are you creating a shooting star or a planet?
What kind of what business are you creating?
Is it a planet or a shooting star?
Unfortunately, it seems like too many Web businesses are based on the shooting star concept. A shooting star burns brightly, but for a very short period of time. Then it flames out and is gone.
When a Web business is built on fads or gimmicks, it is like a shooting star. It may make money for a short time, but soon the reason for its existence is obsolete and it stops generating revenue.
For example, web sites that are selling the latest information on search engine rankings, or software that automatically generates pages, often fall into this category. When the search engines change their algorithms or products become obsolete. They are red-hot for a short time and then the revenue disappears.
In other words, just because you can create a product, doesn’t mean you should.
Clearly, it’s much better to build a business that models a planet. Consider how a planet rotates around the sun and how it has its own moons. Now consider a Web business based on this idea where the sun is like the customer.
In the same way a planet revolves around Sun, your business should revolve around the customer. It may change the way it looks over time as you update and adapt the content. But the customer is always at the center of what to do.
Consider the moons your backend or affiliate products. You carefully select these programs and products because they make sense with your business. And they revolve around both your customer and your business. When the moons and the planet are thoughtfully aligned, they stick together and last that way for a long time.
That should be the goal for your business. You build a customer base and marketing system and you continue to offer them products and services that match their needs.
This way, instead of spending time researching and creating new products, you spend that same time perfecting your systems so you get the most from your existing business. Only after you feel comfortable that you have achieved a solid and stable orbit should you move on to create another planet
