ClickBank Recurring Billing Idea
ClickBank just published a Recurring Billing Guide full of details and screen shots on how to implement their recurring billing.
While detailed as to the nuts and bolts, the guide doesn’t cover much of the marketing behind recurring billing.
For example, it doesn’t talk about using recurring billing as a “Trial Offer”.
You can use this feature to let customers have a low-cost trial of your product - even if it is not a “recurring” billing product like a membership site.
I’m testing this now at a couple of sites.
Instead of paying $97 up front, customers can pay $5 for a 10-day trial. The ClickBank system will automatically rebill the remaining $92 after 10 days unless the customer has cancelled.
Consider using a trial in your email autoresponder series at the end of your normal selling cycle.
Let’s say you have a 7-day follow-up sequence.
If your prospect hasn’t bought by then, they prob ably won’t.
So hit them with a special $5 trial to remove the risk and let them experience the product.
Sure, some people will take the trial, get access to your content, and immediately cancel. But if you think about it, that’s not much different than the people who refund anyway.
However, the perceived risk for the prospect is much lower because they are only spending $5 now instead of $97.
If your product is good, most of them will stick and you will probably end up netting more money.
As with any technique, it pays to test this by watching the number of trials and the number of rebills.
