How my blog made #1 on Google
This is the story of how I got a simple blog to #1 on Google, and earned a PageRank of 3, with just a few hours of work and some really good SEO blog software I got for free.
The strange thing is, this was pretty simple.
But let’s start from the beginning.
I have a domain I had bought a while ago and never did anything with, so I installed a WordPress blog on it.
I found this free traffic-getting SEO software that works with WordPress blogs, so I thought I’d try it out.
Got it at:
http://ProvenMarketing.info/on/seosoftware Note: You have to opt-in to get the software.
You can see the domain at: http://ModelRocketBooks.com
As you can see, I made several posts when I first installed the blog, and then a handful since. There is certainly nothing fancy about the design – it’s a basic template. I’ve pretty much ignored the site for months at a time.
In total, there are under 20 posts to that blog. The last post I made was September and before that it was April. Not a lot of time invested here.
Most of them are simple reposts of information and videos I found using Google Alerts.
I really don’t think you could put much less time into a blog
I know backlinks are important to getting a blog ranked. But I hardly did any.
I put one link from my main blog.
I posted once in one forum – that has nothing to do with rocketry. And somebody else with a rocket site linked to one of my posts naturally. That’s all.
But – if you go to Google and search for:
model rocket books
…you will find my little blog in the #1 spot.
Even more amazing to me – the site has a PageRank of 3!
Now I can link to a few of my other sites and get some nice link juice from a PR3 site where I have complete control.
I monetized the blog with affiliate links for products from eBay and Amazon, and have made a few bucks from both of them.
Remember, I only did this as an experiment. And this certainly isn’t a high-traffic keyword, but as I write this the blog has had 3,971 page views, so there are interested people going there. (1,998 visitors came from Google)
In summary, this is about as little work as you can do to make a real blog with real content and great SEO. I now have a PR3 site with traffic in a real niche.
It was a great experiment. And since I really don’t have any interest in model rocketry, I’ll probably sell this site. I would imagine it is worth several hundred dollars since it has a PR3 and real traffic. That will be a nice payback on the little time I spent on the blog. (Plus I learned a lot)
And yes, I am now building a few more niche blogs like this, but I won’t be making those so public. This model rocket book blog has already been copied by somebody.
I believe the main reason the blog did so well is the SEO software. (It certainly wasn’t the quantity of backlinks or posts) The site is fully optimized, which made it easy for Google to rank it.
Bottom line: Google loves these blogs.
If you have a blog or are interested in learning how to optimize for Google, I’d recommend downloading the SEO software. There’s no-charge for it as of now.
