Las Vegas

I recently returned from a trip to Las Vegas with some of my internet marketing friends including:

Yanik Silver, Jeff Johnson, Jeff Walker, Jason Potash, Ed Dale and Mike Long.

I learned some interesting things from our “mastermind session”.

If you aren’t familiar with the concept, a “mastermind” is when a group of like minded people get together to share ideas and help each other. In our case, we did a lot of talking about internet marketing, upcoming trends, technology that did or didn’t work for us, and lots more.

Of course, we also plotted revenge on Frank Kern and John Reese who both cancelled :)

And perhaps some gambling and partying was done, but always in moderation. I can’t say too much about that because, as you know, “What happens in Vegas…”
But I can reveal that Jeff Johnson won our Texas Hold’em Tournament.

While you might recognize most of the names on the list of attendees, one you probably haven’t heard of is Mike Long. I first met Mike at a seminar in Cleveland (met Jeff Johnson there, too). At that time, neither of them knew anything about this business. They had no idea of how to create a web site or what a sales page was.

Now, less than three years later, Jeff Johnson is one of the most sought-after search engine traffic gurus in the business. He is one of the featured speakers on John Reese’s Traffic Secrets course and won the best speaker award at Yanik’s seminar last year (voted by the audience).

Mike Long had an interesting background. He was the World Champion “Magic the Gathering” Player and won six figures in prize money as a college student. You may not have heard of Magic, but it’s a strategy card game played by millions. At the seminar, many of us talked with Mike about how this experience could be turned into an infoproduct business. Mike listened. Now he is the undisputed leader in that niche, with several very successful infoproducts.

Mike is also a very important “behind the scenes” guy. For example, few people know that Mike was extremely involved in John Reese’s Traffic Secrets launch. You know, the one that did over $1,000,000 in less than 24 hours. Mike helped strategize, write copy, and develop many of the ideas that led to such a successful launch.

Mike was also behind the scenes at Jeff Walker’s recent Product Launch release. Another hugely successful launch that instantly did six figures.

Turns out that Mike has a very sharp marketing mind. He will be coming out from behind the curtains soon, and you will want to pay attention to what he has to say.

Here’s the moral of my story:

Both of these guys showed up at a seminar with no clue about this business. They had no connections, no experience, no web sites. Nothing.

And less than three years later they are both extremely successful. Sure, they are both very smart guys. But the thing they have in common is they got their start at a seminar. They met people. They listened and learned. And most important, they acted on what they learned. Their businesses are entirely different but their attitudes were the same.

Can you see yourself successful in this business three years from now?

Are you willing to work hard and make the investment of time, money and energy that it takes? There are unlimited opportunities in this business. But it all starts with completing one project first. Focus, and learn what you need to get it done.

And if you can go to a seminar, or find some other way to create your own mastermind group, do it. The ideas and support are priceless.
